European Taikai in Monaco — June 3 and 4, 2011
A European Seminar and a European Taikai, lead by Aosaka sensei and organized by the Monaco branch with the help of the French Federation, was held on June 3rd and 4th in the city of Monaco, with kenshi coming from all over Europe. The meeting received the patronage of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco.
About 350 kenshi joined the seminar and some special guests came directly from Japan for the weekend. Sosai So Yuuki, Arai sensei and Suzuki sensei were present together with 39 Japanese kenshi including 19 sensei with a level between 7th and 8th dan.
All participants arrived on Friday and the seminar began on Saturday morning.
The study session was planned on Saturday morning from 9:00 to 12:00 and Sunday from 9:00 to 17:30 and the European Taikai was held on Saturday afternoon at the Louis II stadium.
During the study session, all kenshi were divided in level groups. The Japanese branch masters and some European branch masters taught the level techniques to each of these groups. Everybody really enjoyed the high level of teaching that was given by the sensei who had come to Monaco from so far away.
During the seminar, some kenshi took their dan examination on Saturday morning and Sunday morning (please check WSKO’s homepage to see the names and branches of the award winners).
All the attendants had the great honor to see Arai sensei performing the taiso and kihon. Ishii sensei from Tokyo Office also taught the kihon on Sunday afternoon and Aosaka sensei performed and explained kihonsotai to all the participants as well.
After the Taikai, several speeches were delivered by the Consul General of Japan, WSKO President So Yuuki and Taikai President Aosaka sensei.
After the official speeches, Aosaka sensei received his Daihanshi diploma from WSKO President So Yuuki in the presence of all attendants.
On Saturday night, a gala evening was organized at the renowned Le Meridien Beach Plaza hotel.
Everyone enjoyed having the opportunity to see each other and to exchange with kenshi from different countries and languages. Before closing the ceremony, Aosaka sensei said some countries were already candidates for the organization of the next European Taikai in 2015, namely Spain and Portugal.
